Dockside Gangwar! (Chapter 01)

The capture of the Skinner caused great excitement, and interrogation revealed that the prime movers of all the trouble was a cabal called the Twilight Four, which consisted of for partners in Evil:

  • The Skinner - head of the Skinsaw Cult, now in custody.
  • The Infector 
  • The Rumor-Monger
  • The Gray Queen

The goal of the Twilight Four is to usurp the power of the Primarch and rule the city-state. 

The members of our squad were given a week's leave and then told to report to Starwatch Keep, which housed  The agents are ordered to Starwatch Keep, the base of  Absalom’s multijurisdictional enforcement officers, the Starwatch, commanded by Captain Asilia of Gyr. 

She offers us membership in the Starwatch, and tells them that given the importance of the conspiracy, for the duration they will now report to her. She informed them that they have gotten a promotion and a raise.

Their new assignment is to investigate the Docks area gang called the Washboard Dogs, who engage in protection rackets, money-laundering, petty theft, and more. The squad checks in with the local guard, the Crestwatch, and consult with their gang expert Lilea Helweather. The Crestwatch were known to be corrupt by the criminals and smugglers which operated in the docks.

The Washboard Dogs, led by Maurissa Jonne, are engaged in a gang war with the rival gang, the Diobel Sweepers, led by Bloody Berleth stemming from an incident at the Lucky Nimbus Casino where after a violent altercation, both gangs received a lifetime ban. The base of the Washboard Dogs, is unknown but the  Diobel Sweepers were said to operate out of a haunted abandoned grammar school.

The Washboard Dog revealed that the money-laundering scheme involved buying artifacts and selling them for casino chips. 

While traveling to the docks to gather more information, the squad was attacked by members of both gangs in an alleyway; they had planned to fight each other but were willing to put aside aside their animosity in the face of the Edgewatch squad. At the end of the combat, three of the gang members were captured and interrogated before being sent to the Edgewatch headquarters to await trial.

On the way back from reporting, they were approached by Rhei Chernaz, a merchant of the Duck's Back Curio Shop, who pays the Washboard Dogs protection. She wants the gang war to end. Valcos found a set of the Goggles of Night in her shop, and bought it as incentive for her to say more.  She disclosed that the brother of  Maurissa Jonne, named Giord, bought an artifact from her shop, an antique hookah. She said “He said he and his friend were meeting at a so-called mutual acquaintance’s sloop called the Arrowhead, not far from the Slick Scylla taproom.”

The squad, determined to capture Giord and use him for leverage with Maurissa, headed for the docks and the Arrowhead berth.
